![]() ![]() I would think that the way Lab Manager works would be a lot quicker to deploy machines. With a VDI solution, we would have to deploy 20 12Gig machines. With Lab Manager, the people in the class would really only be using a snapshot of the workstation. When class begins, we pick a template, snap off 20 copies of it (One for each person in the class), they use Remote Desktop to get to their own machine or the Lab Manager URL. Let's say the XP template machine is 12Gig. I like the idea of Lab Mnager because we could have two or three different XP machine configurations. They are all in the same room on the same network. There's really no central control of them. They use BootCamp to boot into either Mac OS or Windows. The machines we would be using are MacBooks. They'll have their own ESX host (Or cluster), so we never even have to upgrade them when it is intergrated into VC if we don't want to. In our training room, it couls stay that way forever. Right now, it's a seperate management console. There would be no exceptions.Įventually, I'm sure lab manager will be intergrated into VC. In the training room, everyone except the manager would be a user. Managing our lab with VC gives us better control of who can do what. Because of what we need to do in our lab, everyone would have to be an administrator. There are only two levels of permissions. We do have a person that manages the training room. It seems like it's a product that requires a full time person to manage. What do we do in the future? Should we use VDI? We own Lab Manager and we won't be using it in our actual lab. We didn't have enough space left to fit the VM. One of the training companies brought their own VM to put on each workstation. ![]() Something came up that we hadn't anticipated. i think somebody got an Apple T-shirt for buying so many Powerbooks. Before we set up the room, we had discussed VDI and it was rejected. 99% of what we train on requires Windows but, we had some sort of Apple political adgenda to satifiy so this is what I'm stuck with. We're using Mac laptops with dual boot of Mac OS and Windows XP. About 50 nice desks, projector, sound system, etc. We recently setup a state of the art training room. Is anybody out there using Lab manager for a training room? ![]()
